Toilet riddle

My six year old son has come up with a riddle that I believe may be original.

Q: "What toy can you do wees and poos into?"

A: "A toylet!"

If anyone knows a source for this, please let me know. I couldn't find anything similar in an internet search. He claims he made it up, which is possible.

Week 12: Pageant of the Transmundane

This week, Maven from the ever wonderful Welcome to the Sanctum Sanctorum did a blogathon where she ended up doing 48 posts in a day... and well, when she posts that much over a day, weird and wild stuff sort of just materializes, and well, if something transmundane didn't emerge from that, well, then I am not doing my job as a caretaker of the oddities of blogging.

There was a lot to choose from, including a weird letter to Dan Savage involving shaving cream, the arrest of a man in a kilt for flashing and fornication and the Blue Man Group performing Baba O'Riley. But I chose something a little different.

In her twelfth entry for her blogathon, she found the first episode of a satirical Ken Burns-type documentary about cyclical non-uterine dysmenorhea or male menstrual cramps. It is the presentation that really sells this for me, as I just saw segments of the Baseball miniseries this week, so it is spot on. All it was missing was the late Shelby Foote... and they did a pretty good job picking a recognizable narrator voice

And to celebrate this win, well, I tried to find Homer looking like he was getting hit with the menstrual cramps real hard, but alas, I had to go for a more historical perspective, and go with the Da Vinci Homer for your Homer Simpson Transmundanity Award.

Congrats Maven. I am sure you weren't expecting this win, but I bet you'll take it nonetheless. It was almost the thing with shaving cream... almost. But alas, male menstrual cramps carried the day for you this week.

The rules of this little contest: Every week I will be selecting one blog post that I have seen from the vast reaches of the blogosphere to bestow with the Homer Simpson Transmundanity Award for being one of the freakiest(in a funny way) things I've seen or read during a 7 day period. It doesn't necessarily have to have been written during the week, I just had to have encountered it. That means that if you find something interesting and repost it like a movie or whatever, if I saw it at your blog first, you get the prize. Of course, creating your own content is also a very good way to win.

Now, if you see a post that you think is worthy of this illustrious prize, just drop me a line at campybeaver@gmail.com and we'll see if we can't get your suggestion up and award-ready while giving you some credit and a link to your own blog.

Painful Whose Line is it Anyway Segment

Since this has been a slow week, I thought I would drop this video for all to see.

It is an appearance by Whose Line is It Anyway stalwarts Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood at the Just for Laughs festival playing a painful improv game involving blindfolds, bare feet and a stage full of mouse traps. Even if you hated the show, it is still really funny.

Makes my feet ache(amongst other parts).

A Pinup Permutation That Boggles the Mind

Sometimes you encounter an idea whose sheer simplicity and elegance moves you at a deeper level, sometimes you see something online that makes you wonder why you didn't think of it yourself and sometimes, just sometimes, you see something that you believe truly makes the world a better place.

Zombie Pinups does none of those things, but dammit, it is still great fun.

The premise of the site is this: take the glamor of 1940's and 50's pinup girl pictures and add the coolness of the models being made up to look like zombies.

Now, I am not talking about them dabbing a bit of makeup over their faces to make them look a little green... no, in a lot of cases, the effect they went for was mottled, bubbly rotted flesh.

My question is how did the founders of this site come up with the combination of carnal lust and hunger for human flesh. I mean, it seems like such a niche market. And yet, for some strange reason it all works.

But the thing that makes it really pop for me is that while the initial models were all shot and made up by the site owners, over the past year or so, they've accepted submissions from outside models/photographers and held events so that they've cultivate a community around this very odd subculture.

Anyway, I just thought this was something so odd I had to share it with the rest of you.

Good News on the Greek front

I have good news for the fans of Greek out there, news that I have a hard time believing in this age of quick cancellations and networks not giving shows a chance to develop.

Greek has been doing so well on ABC Family that the network has ordered an additional 10 episodes to run during the early part of 2008.

I do not know what kind of ratings the series is receiving on the main ABC network, but given that it is airing on Friday nights at 9 when perhaps its core audience would be out actually doing the things that appear on the show rather than merely watching them, so I have no idea if these new episodes would also appear on the main network after the initial summer run of the first 10 episodes, which as a Canadian is distressing for me, as that would be the only place I would likely be able to see it.

I am not the ideal demographic for the show, I admit, as I am not a teen, I am not female and and I am not American, but the show still appeals to me. What can I say?
