54mm Registered Cossack

Painted this one up in a hurry last night, a gift and early birthday present for my grandmother who was visiting here in Sweden. Last year she saw my other 54mm diorama miniatures and asked if I she could get one - so I took the opportunity while she was visiting to paint up my last 54mm miniature from Siberia-Miniatures , a Russian manufacturer of superb historical themed collectable large scale metal miniatures. I really recommend checking them out, they have an amazing collection of products and have very affordable rices.

The miniature is a Zaporozhian Cossack, but I painted it up to be a Registered Cossack hence the color choices. If I had more time I would have added more detail to the clothes but it was painted in one sitting during last evening/night. The base is 40x30mm laser cut MDF upon which I mounted the trimmed down cast metal base along with the miniature, then covered it in two layers of sand and PVA glue. The stone which the Cossack is standing on is part of the figure.

You can check out my other two 54mm miniatures from Siberia-Miniatures here:

Don't fraternize with Germans (weird WW2 diorama)

This is hilarious and super cool at the same time. A friend of a friend had made this awesome weird WW2 diorama featuring Secrets of the Third Reich and Incursion German zombies and US troops. I got a CD with the pictures during our last gameday from a third friend who thought I would like it and perhaps consider posting and sharing it on my blog. Not really knowing what to expect I came home and popped the CD into my computer - I laughed out loud!

Depicting a checkpoint guarded by the 6th armored division about to be overrun by evil Nazi zombies the diorama hits exploitation overdrive with the remodeled "Gretel" miniature standing atop a V-gas dispenser machine. As if the original sculpt wasn’t burlesque enough!

Brilliant idea and full of goofy ideas, like the zombie crew trapped in the Hetzer tank, the zombies tripping into the pond and the signs adding additional comedy value.

I hope you guys enjoy the pictures!

54mm Bohdan Khmelnytsky

Completed paintjob, the matt varnish turned out OK thought it could have been better. But taking into account the weather I should be happy it didn't go the other way and turn frosty or more glossy.

For those unfamiliar with this fellow, Bohdan Khmelnytsky and the Khmelnytsky uprising the history is very interesting and too detailed to sum up easily. But in short it was a Cossack uprising against the Polish-Lithuanian commonwealth. In the war that followed, Khmelnytsky managed to find new allies in the tatars to balance his army and was able to defeat the Polish-Lithuanian armies twice which led to creation of a Cossack hetmanate.
