I Didn't Actually Think That Existed In The Wild

I've been playing NBA 2K13 lately, and enjoying it, and on the soundtrack of that game, there is a song which I decided to look up on Youtube and I ran across this exchange.

I honestly thought that that was a stereotype... that someone would be truly upset that a band they liked went mainstream.I never thought I would actually see someone express that sentiment in the wild. In a sketch lampooning hipsters yes, but not out in the real world (or yes, even the occasional idiocy of a Youtube comment section).

I guess my hipster hate has not been misplaced all these years.

Resuming the Midweek Video: Chvrches- Lies

I loved this song so much last year. And it is wonderful to see that that Chvrches is doing well as a band as they've performed live on BBC it seems.

I just look forward to seeing what the band records next as the songs I've heard from them have been very good indeed.

Courtney Love Says Muppets Raped Kurt Cobain's Memory

Allow me to roll my eyes before I say this.

Courtney Love is upset that in the latest Muppets movie, which is coming out on DVD next week, there is a rendition of Smells Like Teen Spirit which she didn't give permission for (though she didn't have to give permission for it since she sold the rights to the song to another company).

But really, while I am not going to speak for Kurt Cobain, the fact that he was seemingly pleased that Weird Al parodied that song would make it seem like he would have probably been happy about the Muppets doing that song too. Because aside from Fox News, who hates the Muppets?

1985's Epic Battle of Diss

I love the fact that there is an entry about the multiple participant rap war of 1985 known as the Roxanne Wars, starting with Roxanne, Roxanne and then Roxanne's Revenge before just rolling out of control after that.

A diss battle that blew up but doesn't seem to have resulted in any real violence or anything... just a lot of records in a short period of time.

You would think that with Youtube and all the various ways of distributing work, we might be able to see another epic battle like this take place over a summer.

I would love that. We need a good old artistic diss battle without bloodshed.

And after seeing Smokin' Aces after the teaser trailer, it is a dirty trick perpetuated by utter bastards.

I guess I will always have the super Mad Max mashup to redeem the song though.

Midweek Video: This Is Hardcore

I've always loved this video. I love the fact that the song is about pornography, but the video blends 1950-60's cinematic melodrama, film noire and a Busby Berkeley dance number. I just wish the uncensored version (with the full version of the classic Chinatown line at the beginning) was higher quality.

It is still technically Sunday, so this late entry still qualifies as a Sunday Night Video.

I loved this song more than the more famous Rabbit In the Headlights video which preceded it.
