Stupid Remake Alert
Well, once again Hollywood executives have found a way to lower the remake bar once again.
What ungodly remake are they working on now you may ask?
Footloose.
Why... why are you torturing me, Hollywood. What did I ever do to you that you would force this movie back into my cultural soup. Yes, I ruled for a moratorium on movie remakes, but I don't think that merited the world being saddled with the prospects of another bad remake.
Now, for disclosure sake, I don't like or hate the original movie... it just exists. I haven't really thought about it in a couple of years, but since it has only been 24 years, this one seems really premature.
And get this, the people behind this atrocity want to replace the Mr. Six Degrees with Zac Efron.
What's next... a remake of Caddyshack with Joshua Jackson, Bill Maher, Tom Green and Mark Wahlberg?
Err....Hollywood, forget I said that... I didn't say anything about remaking that classic of comedic cinema.

America has selected its Springfield
Well, the battle for which real Springfield would be the representative Simpsonian Springfield for the premiere of The Simpsons Movie has been decided and the winner is Springfield, Vermont.
Personally I was hoping Springfield, Oregon would have carried the day based on Matt Groening's background in the state, and the fact that many of the character names on the show are based on streetnames in Portland. But I can respect the decision that America came to.
And Springfield, Vermont does have another nice claim... it is the birthplace of James Kolchalka, an comic artist whose work I have enjoyed for quite some time.

Behind Starfall
I have raved about Starfall before; the site that teaches kids to read. Here is a link to an interesting article about its founders.
A Few Thoughts from the Weekend
"Cloverfield": Yes, the mystery trailer that was shown before Transformers, and a piece of marketing genius. Of course, when you get this kind of hype, especially with a J.J. Abrams project, you know that the finished product will never be able to live up to it. I mean, as a fan of Alias, I was really let down with how the whole Rambaldi thing came down. I am not going to speculate about what this new project is going to be because I know in my heart I will be disappointed.
Live Earth: Didn't watch it... it was on 5 channels, and I still couldn't be bothered to tune in for more than 2 minutes at a time(mostly just flipping by the channel that had the Rio feed and seeing no performances). The cynical side of me wonders how many of the artists that performed were just doing so for the good publicity.
Stealth Gaming: Around 5 or 6 months ago, I reported that I just never got into the whole stealth thing when it came to gaming.... but after whetting my palate with titles from the Metal Gear series, I've come around to that way of thinking. So I admit that I was wrong.
More Professional Football: A group is trying to put together another professional football league in the United States featuring exclusively alumni from the most prestigious college teams. Now, this is something I don't really talk about much here, but when it comes to sports, there is only one that catches my imagination and it is football, both in the professional and collegiate varieties, and I like the foundations of this league. Basically, it looks like it is going to take the aspects I like most about the college game(like the rivalries) and the professional game and put it together into a great spring league. I mean, I'd rather watch football in the spring time than baseball... I abhor baseball (like many of you out there loathe football), so I would like to have the option of watching decent football action and not that stupid arena league.
