Keep Two Hands on Your Brain: Mendenhall Drops the Ball

By GTOG Staff

We told you that professional athletes and Twitter are a dangerous combination.  We even offered to teach a course entitled:  "Tweet of the Moment: Your Players are Stupid, But Not Everyone Needs to Know About It."  Frankly, GTOG feels OK about this whole Rashard Mendenhall scandal, because there is not a whole lot else we could have done to prevent it.

In case, as we would expect, you get your hard news solely from this blog, let us fill you in on recent developments involving the Steelers starting running back.  Rashard picked up his phone Monday night, then, in all likelihood, inexplicably dropped it.  He picked it up again, logged into his Twitter account, and typed, among other things:
  • "I'm not convinced [Osama Bin Laden] was even behind the [September 11] attacks we have seen no evidence to prove it other than the gov telling us"
  • "We'll never know what really happened. I just have a hard time believing a plane could take a skyscraper down demolition style."
And, speaking for no one else, Mendenhall also expressed his regret that people are judging Bin Laden too harshly.

It's nice to have a running back, forensic examiner, and modern day Frank Lloyd Wright all rolled into one unsurehanded package.  How many other teams can say that?  And how many other teams can say that they've drafted three revolutionary thinkers in Ben Roethlisberger, Santonio Holmes, and this guy?  That's a lot of intellectual firepower in one room.

This is not new for Rashard, as just six weeks ago, he observed, "Anyone with knowledge of the slave trade and the NFL could say that these two parallel each other."  We can totally see that, with the one difference being that if a slave dropped something important, the consequences were slightly more severe than when Mendenhall fumbled away the Super Bowl.

No evidence to prove Mendenhall blew the Super Bowl
"I just encourage you to think," he later tweeted, in response to a wave of negative reaction.  Rashard, we just encourage you to shut up and hold on to the f---ing ball.  See you in training camp!
