Apparently Steelers' linebacker James Harrison slams NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in an upcoming issue of Men's Journal. And instead of the politically correct "I'm not a big fan" criticism, it's the "If that man was on fire and I had to piss to put him out, I wouldn't do it. I hate him and will never respect him." Oh, and a gay-slur, some shots at ex-players and even some shots at his own teammates. He also says Brian Cushing is "juiced out of his mind," which is interesting coming from a player who was an undrafted free agent in 2002, didn't do anything in the NFL until 2007 when he miraculously became Team MVP, exceeded that in 2008 as NFL Defensive Player of the Year, and plays and lives his life with a certain degree of "rage." I'm not sayin' ... I'm just sayin'.
We should probably wait until the full article comes out to make a final judgment -- after all, what's the rush? -- but if what is reported is accurate and is not mitigated by taking the quotes "in context," then we have to ask.... is it time to say, "Peace Out, James Harrison?"
He's a fantastic football player, but he's become a professional "Make It About Myself" artist. He admitted to hitting his girlfriend in 2008 and got a bizarre pass from the Rooneys at the same time they were kicking Ced Wilson off the team for a similar offense. Since then, he's delivered a series of punishing hits that may or may not have been dirty, although that's not the issue with him. It's the distraction, the negative attention, the penalties, and, ultimately, the ridiculous position that he is constantly putting the Steelers' organization in. He, and others, complain that the Steelers are targeted by the league, a ridiculous assertion given that they are the most popular team in the NFL and have the most beloved ownership group in the sport. He slams Goodell relentlessly and immaturely, but you know who Goodell works for? The Rooneys. Would he take a squirt on Dan Rooney if he was on fire? Could he even find Ireland on a map?
Then again, he's really good.
Maybe we can put up with him..... |
