Time flies

It's not the most meaningful anniversary for my grumpy TPiR-indifferent self.

But as Wikipedia points out in its article on The Price is Right, "[Drew] Carey's first show aired October 15, 2007." Which was five years ago today. Lots of water has passed over the dam since then, and the thunderous Internet arguments over Drew now seem a little quaint. He's still here, he's not going away, and the show keeps grinding on.

I have no skin in the endless Barker-Carey arguments. Both hosts were and are plenty competent, and I don't watch the show much, anyway. Drew's lost weight, gotten a new announcer, presided over a few of the apparently inevitable lawsuits around the show, and given away piles of cash and merchandise. What more does anybody want?

Yeah, I know the traditionalist Barker diehards want a lot more, like for Drew to drop dead, preferably onstage. I wouldn't hold my breath. Five years from now we'll probably be noting the big one-oh.
