At BuzzerBlog Chad Mosher has posted a long analysis of ratings for GSN's Pyramid.
Chad's bottom line: "Will The Pyramid come back for a season two? If we simply look at the 6PM numbers, I think the answer is still so-so, with a slight lean towards yes. Additionally, if the prime time numbers are to be figured in as well, or if GSN experiments more with prime time and it goes well, my answer becomes a likely."
Don't really disagree with this, though Chad's analysis may be biased by his strongly traditionalist leanings. That's why he's so enthusiastic about GSN's Pyramid, calling it "one of the best game show revivals of this century." GSN has gone super-traditionalist with the show, hardly daring to change anything from the old Dick Clark days.
I'm a pretty trad guy myself. But after a while, aping the past gets a little (sorry) old. Frankly, I think GSN's Lingo was a much better revival, exactly because the network did change a lot of things from the ancient 1980s version. I realize this is a minority opinion on the game show Interwebs, where older is almost always better.
In fact, I think the slavish imitation of everything old may help account for Pyramid's less than overwhelming ratings. Viewers have been there and done that. Right down to almost every detail.
