It was a little strange to see Convy competing on the show that he would later host for five seasons when it was revived as Super Password. But Bert was all over classic game shows, as his Wikipedia article recounts. He was always a competent game player and quick with a quip, and handsome and personable in an unpretentious way. Just a natural for the genre.
As most classics fans know, Convy died of a brain tumor at the sadly early age of 57. Bert was never a giant of the genre, but he never turned in a bad performance, either. He was one of those all-purpose players and hosts who helped make a lot of game shows a little more entertaining.
